Review: Second Chances in Camelot by Donna Marie

Second Chances in Camelot

The end of Julia Belden's marriage came as no surprise. Although it began for a pregnancy, she and Carl stayed married for 10 years. Their only emotional connection was a baby who did not survive past one day. After two years of grieving for his wife, Nick Sitello kept busy while teaching high school math and raising Sammy. Romance never entered his mind until his encounter with Julia while on a weekend getaway. It was a timely moment when she tumbled into the water just as he and his son coasted by in their rowboat. As he helped her from the lake, the attraction was immediate. Nick questioned Julia's love when Carl reentered her life. He was protective of his feelings but most of his son's. Julia was torn between her new relationship and an obligation to Carl as childhood ghosts returned to haunt him, vindicating his distant nature while married.

It's a very good contemporary fiction about second chances, love, mending the fences, and healing from old wounds. I think that it's very well-written and I liked all the characters. I enjoyed reading it and would recommend it to those who like contemporary stories about love and family.
Julia and Carl are recently divorced. She had just moved to her father's vacation home when she meets Nick. Nick is a single dad and a widower. He liked Julia right from the beginning and as the two spend more time together they slowly fall in love. However, there are things in their pasts that are still haunting them and they are reluctant to take a leap of faith.
Nick's wife had died leaving him to care for his only son. Julia's ex-husband Carl is having trouble and she feels that she must help him. Especially since there is no one else in his life who would do it. But what will it mean for her and Nick?
There are pasts scars that are haunting these characters. Their stories are intertwined and their fates too. Will things get better for all three of them or will they destroy each other's lives? These are some of the questions that are answered in this sweet, romantic, and emotional novel.
All in all, it's a great read. I found it highly entertaining and I think others will enjoy it too.
P.S. I received a complimentary copy of this book.

Review: The Best Friend Problem by Mariah Ankenman

The Best Friend Problem

Prudence Carlson has been lucky in life. A fulfilling wedding-planning business run with her girlfriends in Colorado, plus the best guy friend ever in her firefighter bestie Finn. All that’s missing from it is a baby. Luckily, it’s the twenty-first century—Pru can take matters into her own hands. She doesn’t need to find true love to create the future love of her life.

Except all this talk of babies and insemination and...Pru and Finn cross a line they never expected to. Sure, one night of passion won’t change their close friendship. Until Pru goes in for a fertility check-up to find… she’s already pregnant.

As best friends, Pru and Finn have survived college, new jobs, and bad breakups, but can they survive crib shopping, birth classes, and late-night cravings? Especially when Finn has never considered himself even remotely Daddy material?

I loved it! It's such a sweet and romantic story of two friends falling in love. I enjoyed their friendship and how it evolved into something more. Both the main characters are very well-written and well-developed. I also liked the supporting characters. Overall, it's a very good read and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good contemporary romance novel. And if you love friends-to-lovers kind of stories then this is a must-read novel for you.
Pru has control issues. She likes to plan things and hates surprises of any kind. Right now, she has a perfect plan to become a single mother. She loves children and having a family of her own has always been her dream. It's time to go after her dream and that's exactly what she plans to do. But things get a little messed up when all her planning turns out to be a waste. A one-night stand with her best friend turned all her careful planning upside down. It's okay though, she can adjust. After all, she will get what she wants in the end. So, that's what she will focus on. Now, only if everything else goes according to the plan all will be well. Only if...
Finn is a firefighter. Dealing with difficult situations and coming across loss is an everyday occurrence for him. He has learned to deal with surprises well. He knows how to stay calm even when things don't go as planned. When one steamy night ends up changing the entire course of his life, he takes it very well. In fact, he decides that this is a good thing. As long as Pru is happy he will be happy too... Until he begins to realize that he might want different things than her. If things change will their life-long friendship survive or is it better to be a coward and forget what happened between them? One thing is for sure though, a life without Pru isn't something he can even imagine...
It's a beautifully written story about friendship, love, and complicated relationships that make you question every decision you take. I found it highly entertaining and totally worth the read.
P.S. I received a complimentary copy of this book via NetGalley.

Release Blitz: All it Takes by Kristen Proby

All it Takes  by Kristen Proby
A Romancing Manhattan Novel
Release Date: July 30, 2019

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Kristen Proby’s second novel in her Romancing Manhattan series delivers the sizzling story of a playboy who’s vowed never to commit until he meets the one woman he’s tempted to break his promise for. Quinn Cavanaugh doesn’t do anything halfway. He drives fast, works hard, and plays even harder. And the word “commitment” doesn’t exist in his dictionary. He has no plans of settling down with one woman for he needs to be free to move on to the next big thing—whatever or whoever that may be. Each party knows the score going into it, and it’s all been working out fine. That is, until a sexy new colleague enters the scene. Sienna Hendricks doesn’t give much thought to Quinn and the revolving door leading to his bedroom. She’s way too picky about who she shares her time or her body with and screwing around with a colleague isn’t part of her plan either. Quinn doesn’t intimidate her. And unlike most other members of her sex, she doesn’t melt into a puddle at his feet whenever he’s near. Most importantly, she has no issues telling him no. But for a man who has the world at his feet, Quinn isn’t accustomed to being rejected. And he’s not about to let that change—no matter how persistent Sienna is. To his surprise, Sienna is everything he thought he’d never find. Pursuing her, and convincing her he's changed, is going to be the biggest challenge of his life. One he’s completely up for….

Review: Awaken: Book two of the Alderash Series (Alderash Series #2) by Tanya L. Harris

Awaken: Book two of the Alderash Series

In the anticipated next chapter, Awaken returns us to Tanya L. Harris’ Alderash Series.

Katie’s visions are getting stronger showing her the atrocities caused in the past and what will happen in the future if she doesn’t accept her birthright. The visions also reveal her brothers are being tortured for information about her. She needs to find them before their captors decide they’re no longer needed.

The Evil of old, the Darkness, is growing and consuming the energies of the outer realms, building its strength and power. It knows that Katie can not be reunited with her brothers, because together, her powers will be unmatchable.

Unpredictable circumstances force a hand and neither side could anticipate the resulting clash between elven and monster.

Prepare yourself for a wild ride with plenty of plot twists and turns with a conclusion that will shock you.

This is the second book in the Alderash Series. It starts from where the previous book had left off. The story continues and it is just as epic as book one. This series has created a world that is full of magic and intrigue. It is well-written and has some really amazing characters. I especially love Katie's character. Things get even more complicated in this installment of the series and danger becomes even more eminent. There are enough turns and twists to keep readers entertained. I enjoyed reading it and would recommend to anyone who loves high fantasy.
P.S. I received a complimentary copy of this book.

Review: Just Love by Prescott Lane

Just Love

There’s two sides to every love story. The how you fell in love, and the how you fell apart.

This is ours.

The cardinal rule of friendship is you don’t mess with your friend’s sister.
That goes double when she’s his little sister.

It was just supposed to be fun.

She wasn’t supposed to end up being the love of my life.
And I definitely wasn’t supposed to break her heart.

Ainsley is a wedding dress designer. That should’ve been a warning that she’s a hopeless romantic. That should’ve clued me in that she believes love conquers all.

But there are some things that love can’t fix. I’m one of them.

She thinks love is the answer.

But love is the reason I let her go.

I loved it! It is a story about love, friendship, and second chances. It's both heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. I think that it is very well-written and all the characters are amazing. It's one of those romances that touch your heart and make you feel alive. I enjoyed reading it a lot and would recommend to anyone who loves contemporary romance. This book is a must-read for all such people.

Ainsley is his best friend's little sister. They brought her up together, in fact. So, he has no right to have romantic feelings towards her but no matter how much he tries, Rhett can't help it. She is the woman for him, he is sure about that. Now, only if his best friend would let him live after this then he would be the happiest man in the world... Or so he thought. But soon he will realize that life is never predictable and he might not have any future with the woman he loves...

I think this is a beautiful story and I loved every single thing about it. I especially enjoyed how it is written from both the main characters' point of view. That way you know exactly what is going on in their heads and how exactly they feel about each other. All in all, a great read.

Review: I Love to Hate You (Marry in Haste Series #1) by Elizabeth Keysian

I Love to Hate You (Marry in Haste Series #1)

The first rule of setting a trap is not to get caught in it yourself…

Miss Athene Hartville must marry quickly, or risk spending the rest of her days in a gloomy garret, embroidering baby’s gowns. When her flirtatious chaperone secures an invitation to spend the week with an eccentric duke and his guests, Athene’s hopes of finding a rich husband soar. Until, that is, her childhood nemesis Viscount Rushbourne, arrives. He threatens to trample her ambitions into the dust.

Struggling to manage his ailing father, a maverick younger brother, and an unwieldy earldom, Rushbourne’s reunion with the fiery Athene is a welcome distraction. Then he uncovers a conspiracy against him that could lead to his total ruin.
His only hope is to win Athene’s heart…but can he pay the price and accept her bitter revenge?

This book is a page-turner. I was hooked right from the very beginning. I've read and loved previous works by this author so I had high hopes when I started this book and I must say it is even better than what I hoped for. It is true that I'm partial to historical fictions and I do love a good enemy-to-lover story, but this book is so much more. I loved the characters. I loved how well-written it is. I loved every single detail about the settings and the situations that these characters are facing. It's intriguing, romantic, and at times very funny. All is all, I think this story is a work of art, it's perfection and I'd definitely recommend it if you like historical fiction. In fact, pick it up even if you don't like historical fiction and this book might just change your mind about the genre. The best thing is that it's easy to read and ends quite well.
Miss Athene is about to learn that it is very much possible for one to fall into one's own trap. She set out to seek revenge on her childhood tormentor but ended up falling for him. Has Viscount Rushbourne really changed that much from the time when she knew him? Or is he still the same brute pretending to be a gentleman? She is going to find out the hard way and there is nothing she can do about it.
Viscount Rushbourne doesn't remember the things Athene accuse him of. He remembers having a crush on a girl and trying stupid things to get her attention. He had no idea that she thought of him as cruel or that she was still holding a grudge after all those years. In any case, he is willing to do anything to make her see that he has changed. And that he wants her in his life, not to torment her but to love her. But does he stand a chance against years of hatred?
P.S. I received a complimentary copy of this book.
