Review: The Angel Gift (Dark World: The Angel Trials Book 4) by Michelle Madow

The Angel Gift (Dark World: The Angel Trials Book 4)
Synopsis
Everyone is separated, and no one is safe.

Raven Danvers didn’t think her life could get any crazier since the night a demon attacked her in an alley and abducted her mom.

She was wrong.

Because now that same demon has abducted her too. He’s thrown her into a secret bunker with a group of humans who have unique abilities that make them “gifted.” They don’t know what the demons want with them, and the bunker is impossible to escape.

Her only hope is Noah—the wolf shifter she’s imprinted upon. She just needs to let him know where she is. But she can’t do it alone. Her only way to get a message to him is to team up with the other humans by making use of their unique gifts.

But they have to do it fast. Because their time in the bunker is temporary. The demons are prepping them to go somewhere else… somewhere far worse than where they are now.

They don’t know what this place is.

They just know they really, really don’t want to find out.

Get ready for a magical, twist-filled ride in the fourth installment of The Angel Trials series, a fast-paced urban fantasy adventure that will leave you on the edge of your seat wanting more!
Review
Raven and Noah's story continues in the fourth book. This series is turning out to be even better than I expected. I love Raven's character so much. She seems like a normal human girl but the demons think she is gifted and that keeps putting her in harm's way. She is kidnapped by demons, along with Sage. Now she must find a way out of her prison. She is sure that Noah will be looking for her so it won't be long before she is free and once again on the quest to find her mother.

Noah and Thomas are trying their best to find the girls. Unfortunately, it's not as easy as they thought. Sage is apparently beyond rescue and they still have no idea where Raven is... until they get help from a very unlikely source... now all they need to do is, kill some demons and find a way to stay alive.

It's an action-packed, fast-paced paranormal fantasy novel, which I enjoyed reading very much. It's part of a series and cannot be read as standalone. So far I've loved all the books in this series and can't wait to read more about the adventure of my favourite characters.

P.S. I received a complimentary copy of this book.

Each book in the Wanton in Wessex series is STANDALONE:

This is a great historical fiction. It's well-written, has amazing, well-developed as well as interesting characters, and it's quite entertaining read. I enjoyed reading it and would recommend to all book lovers. It's definitely one of a kind book that kept me intrigued, especially because of the mysterious way Lawrence Campion acted from the start. I really loved his character.

Flora is tired of her interfering sister. She plans to leave town and start her life somewhere faraway so that her sister can no longer bother her. She is old enough to know that marriage is not in the cards for her any more. Now she just wants to love an independent life, where she can do whatever she loves to do and not have her every action questioned by her nosey sister and her spies. What she didn't count on is falling for Lawrence Campion, he is not the man she should trust but she can't help but feel drawn to him for some reason.

Lawrence goal is to earn enough money so that he can sail to America. There are things from her past that are still haunting him. Maybe if he went to America he will finally be free. Unfortunately, Flora is a complication he didn't anticipate. But he is willing to protect her at all costs. Also he can't help but feel attracted to this amazing woman. Still shackling himself with one woman is not at all his intention, no matter how beautiful the said woman is.

It's a well paced and interesting historical novel that anyone would enjoy. It's worth a read. I loved the story.

Review: A Rose in the Highlands (Highland Roses School #1) by Heather McCollum

A Rose in the Highlands
Synopsis

1684, Scottish Highlands

Englishwoman Evelyn Worthington is resolved to build a school for ladies in her brother's newly purchased Scottish castle. But when she arrives, not only does she find the castle scorched by fire, but a brawny Highlander bars her entry.

Clan chief Grey Campbell would rather die than see his family home, Finlarig Castle, fall into English hands, so Grey must win the battle of wills with the beautiful Sassenach who flashes a bill of sale before him.

When the war between Evelyn and Grey escalates, passions flare. But outsiders have their own plans for Finlarig. After secrets are revealed, and muskets are lit, the fates of the Campbell Clan, the school, and a possible future for Grey and Evelyn are in as much jeopardy as their lives

Review

Books like this are the reason why I love historical fiction so much. I really enjoyed this entertaining read, adored the characters, especially Lady Evelyn. She is a force to be reckoned, so determined and strong, nothing fazes her stubbornness. And no man can stand in her way. She has decided to become an independent woman and she will definitely achieve that goal no matter the danger.

Grey Campbell feels wronged. His parents were killed and his home was taken from him, but he cannot do anything about it. Not that he plans to give up on getting his home back, but it might take some time. For now, he is going to play along with Evelyn's plane and pretend to be working for her. Soon she will fail and return to England then he would claim his castle once again. However, he did not count on falling in love with her. That's one thing that would make his already complicated life even more complicated.

In the midst of danger, both Evelyn and Grey must survive and find a way to be together. Unfortunately, things are stacked against them and there may not be a way out.

It's a very well written story. I loved everything about it. I think it's a must read for historical fiction fans, especially if you love the highlanders. For me, it was a perfect read.

P.S. I received a complimentary copy of this book via NetGalley.

Review: Watched From a Distance by Allison B. Hanson

Review
This book is quite interesting, it has some great characters, and I loved the story. It starts with an unexpected turn of event, where, two people are thrown together and they must find a way to trust each other.

Dane and Lena has nothing in common except the fact that they're both here unwillingly. The only way for them to survive is to help each other. What they didn't anticipate is to be attracted to one another, now they're both in trouble. They cannot stay emotionally detached and the situation is just getting worse. But can they trust each other enough to get out of this mess unharmed?

It's a very thrilling read. There is danger involved and to survive Dane and Lena have to work together. That is the only way they will be able to find a solution to their problem. The story will keep you on edge through out. It's very well-written and entertaining read. I'd definitely recommend it to fans of intrigue and romance.

Review: Battledoors: The Golden Slate by Brian Wilkinson

Synopsis
Life constantly seems to be wavering between really good and really bad for Owen, a lonely sixteen-year-old still reeling from the unexpected death of his mother and a fresh move to Toronto. After ducking into an old bookstore to escape high school bullies, Owen discovers that he can travel to a parallel, twisted version of the city with a magical tablet called a Battledoor, where he encounters new allies, bizarre creatures, and the ultimate antagonist who will stop at nothing to procure the magical Golden Slate for himself.

Forced to work together with friends and enemies in order to return home, Owen is faced with a series of choices that will prompt him to find courage he never knew he had, explore the possibility of romance, and try to find a way to let go of his painful past and move on. But is Owen ready to finally take control, and become the protagonist of his own story?
3 Stars Review
Overall, it was a so-so read for me. I loved the prolong, that was intriguing and held my interest. After reading such great prolong I was expecting something epic. However, first 30% of the book was kind of boring. Now I do understand that it is not intended for my age group and this is my personal opinion, but I think the author over did whole "bullying" thing. It was kind of a turn-off for me. Still I'm glad that I kept reading because once the story picked up it was really good and I did enjoy reading it.

It's story about a book that holds magic (I absolutely loved the concept). Owen, his friends, and his bullies all end up in a fantasy world of 'Battledoors.' They started a story which they must finish now. There is no turning back. One thing is clear; they are going to have an adventure they won't forget any time soon.

If you like YA fantasy then I'm sure you'll enjoy Owen's story, which is to be continued...
P.S. I received a complimentary copy of this book via NetGalley.

Review: Immortal Creators by Jill Bowers

Synopsis
Sixteen-year-old author Scott Beck never wanted to be an Immortal Writer—not after his father was killed on a mission attempting to dispatch his own villain. Scott blames Shakespeare and the Writers for his father's untimely demise, but no amount of hatred will prevent the oncoming alien attack, which has come over to reality straight from Scott's book.

Scott is forced to collect his characters—an Air Force colonel, two of the best pilots on Earth, and an alien enthusiast from the year 2134—and defeat the alien king before Earth is obliterated by his ships. But an odd sickness Scott calls his Writing Fever might just kill him before the aliens have the chance.

Will Scott be able to defeat the monsters he created, or will the world end in flames?
4.5 Stars Review
I really enjoyed this second installment in "Immortal Writers" series. I think that this book is every reader's dream fantasy. I had previously read and loved book one, book two just as interesting. It's a world where our favorite authors are immortal and their characters also come to life. The only problem is that villains can also come to life. So it's not a very safe world and authors have an obligation to protect people. It's not a task that can be taken lightly and newly immortalized young writer Scott is going to face a difficult situation. He must stop the aliens attacking Earth with the help of his characters. However, he might not be up to the task, he is willing to try his best though.

I think that this sequel has done a good job of continuing the fantasy that was created in book one. I enjoyed every minute of it and would recommend to all fantasy fans. The book has it all, i.e. likable characters, great plot, and well-written story. Honestly, I couldn't get enough of it.

P.S. I received a complimentary copy of this book via NetGalley.

Review: Flow Like Water by Mark Burley

Flow Like Water (Hit the Ground Running Series, #2)
Synopsis

“Run, Eric—go as far as you can as fast as you can. I will find you.”

Eric Bakker’s search isn’t over. The conspiracy revealed by his parents’ research goes deeper than he could have imagined, into a place and an organisation with as much history—and secrecy—as any in the world. Getting in won’t be easy, and he’ll need help from his friends more than ever. But when one of them commits a personal sacrifice so Eric can escape from the killers known as the Vidi, the fallout threatens to split the group apart.

Tess has been there from the beginning, but with the addition of Angel, the daughter of another researcher, she begins to doubt her role. Soon after, new information about her father’s death puts her at a crossroads that will force her to choose between Eric’s search for answers and her own.

For Eric, overcoming physical and mental obstacles is built into his parkour training philosophy, but the farther he goes in his search, the bigger the obstacles become. What he eventually discovers no one was ever supposed to find. Ultimately, his path leads to a violent encounter in Sicily, this time with no plan and no idea what he's up against. Eric knows that whatever he encounters, he will have to adapt and react. As the saying goes, he will have to be like water. And like water, he will flow or he will crash.

Review
I had loved Hit the Ground Running and was quite excited to read Flow Like Water. The book didn't disappoint me at all, in fact, I think it's even better than the first one. Story just got more complicated, more thrilling, and much more adventurous. Eric, his brother, and his team are all on the quest to look for Eric's parents and other scientists who have gone missing. Some were found dead and it's all related to mysterious group of people who wish to keep themselves hidden from the world. They've managed to do so for many years but it might not be possible any more. But for now, Eric and his friends want to stay safe and find out the truth about everyone who went missing or tuned up dead.

The journey they are on, will take them from Canada to Europe. They will face many foes, find some new friends, and in the end get close to achieving their goal. But maybe there is more at stake than they think. Tess finds out things about her father which made her wonder about the truth. Eric and Micheal are still looking for their parents. Angel is helping them because her own father is now missing. Williams got separated and they don't know where he is and even if he is alive or not. Twins are still helping them but who knows until when. They are all in danger and they need each other to get out of their ordeal alive. But will their team be able to stay together, with all the tension brewing between them or not, is yet to be determined.

The best thing about this book is how it keeps readers on their toes. It had me second guessing everything. The excitement of the chase is quite real and I find it very entertaining. It takes you to different places, as some of the mystery is unravelled, yet there are things that still need to be explained. I hope the next book is just as good as this one, because now my expectation is quite high and I'd be looking forward to reading it.

P.S. I received a complimentary copy of this book via NetGalley.

Review: Paramnesia (The Deadish Chronicles, Book #1) by Brian Wilkinson

Synopsis
Nora Edwards finally had everything she wanted out of life, including the boy of her dreams, Andrew, until one night that dream turned into a nightmare. On their way home from prom, Nora and Andrew are attacked by a supernatural creature called the Revenant that sucks the souls out of the living in order to feed itself. Nora manages to escape from the creature, but tragically, Andrew is not as fortunate.

Although Nora suffered loss that night, she gained something, as well: the ability to see the dead. Whether the skill is a gift or a curse is yet to be determined, as those around her assume Nora has developed "paramnesia," a disorder where one confuses dreams with reality. She's also attracted the attention of the Revenant's masters, who need to preserve the secret of their supernatural existence. Nora, along with Andrew and her living and dead allies in the Deadish Society, quickly finds herself in a battle for the souls of her city—and her mind.
5-Stars Review
This is an epic read which I enjoyed thoroughly. It's well-written and has very interesting characters, I loved author's writing style; unique and a little quirky. It's a must read for YA paranormal fans. By the way, I'm not really a fan of YA fiction but still loved it a lot.

Nora's story is quite tragic but at the same time it is also full of hope. Although, she loses her boyfriend, whom she loves immensely, however she also gains the ability to see, as well as, talk to the dead. And the dead never rests, unfortunately. At first she thinks she is going crazy. With little help she soon realizes that things are exactly as they seem to be and there is nothing wrong with her brain. Now the question is how she will deal with her knowledge of supernatural world, it not only exists but also poses a threat to her world.

I think this book is just perfect! The name and cover attracted me at first and I'm glad that I read it, because as far as I'm concerned this one is worth reading. It has sad moments and moments that will make you laugh-out-loud, not to mention few incredibly romantic moments that will keep you entertained.

P.S. I received a complimentary copy of this book via NetGalley.

Review: Medallion of Murder by BR Myers

Medallion of Murder (Nefertari Hughes Mystery, #3)
Synopsis
Still struggling with nightmares from the past summer, Terry tries to bury her secret guilt and enjoy her family’s first Christmas in Devonshire. But when a murdered man is found with a postcard addressed to her, Terry fears the repercussions from that fateful night in Egypt are becoming a reality.

After she receives a coded message from Awad, Terry and her best friend Maude are thrown into the hunt for a lost medallion, an artifact that possesses a great power—and a gruesome destiny. As each clue leads to more disturbing truths (and bodies), Terry begins to suspect she’s the real target of the search. When Awad goes missing, she becomes certain the Illuminati are involved, and has no choice but to risk losing the thing she cherishes the most to get him back.

But Terry will soon discover the secrets of the tomb cannot be erased by distance or power, because the ghosts of her past are closing in quickly… and this time, they refuse to stay buried.
Review

The mystery continues in Nefertari Hughes Mystery #3. As I've read and loved both book one and two in this series, I've been looking forward to reading this one. It's just as intriguing and engaging as first two books has been. I already love all the characters, especially Terry. Even with her super-human abilities she is still a teenager and simply trying to make the best choices she can. Her father doesn't always agree with her and he isn't happy with her carrier choice either. But this is something Terry needs to figure out on her own. She is lucky to have some amazing friends who are always there to support her. With their help she is able to get through almost everything in her life...

Unfortunately, her nightmares are something she needs to deal with alone. The past is definitely coming back to haunt her. And when Awad went missing after leaving her random clues, there is no way she isn't going to look for him. But will they be able to uncover the truth before it's too late and also what kind of sacrifices will they be making this time?

One thing is clear though, things are not always as they seem and past cannot remain buried for long.

I loved it! It took me a while to get into the story as I had actually forgotten most of the story (ops!), but once I did there was no putting down this book. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend to all mystery lovers, especially those who enjoy touch of myth and intrigue along with a good adventure in their books.

P.S. I received a complimentary copy of this book via NetGalley.

Release Blitz + Review + Giveaway: Snatched by Cathleen Ross

Snatched
Synopsis

“Gritty and addictive, with blistering sex, Snatched is my all time favorite Cathleen Ross romance!”
Christina Phillips, author of the Viking Bastards MC series

Club Enforcer Troy DeLance is hellbent on revenge—eye-for-an-eye and all that—so he kidnaps his prospect's sister as payback for a betrayal. If he has to tie Stacey Martin to his bed to make sure she stays, so be it. All the better if she likes it.

Stacey will do anything to save her brother. Even if it means surrendering in ways she never imagined to her beastly kidnapper. But as their relationship heats up neither realizes that someone else is plotting a far more deadly payback...
Review

I think I'm in love with Troy DeLance, seriously, Stacey is one lucky woman. I love them both though and they are so perfect together. He is a club enforcer, who is basically trying to save her brother from imminent death. She, on the other hand, is a city girl who comes from a rich family and is used to being pampered. They both have plans for their lives but fate has a different plan for them.

Troy doesn't want to do it but he has no choice. He must kidnap Stacey and make her brother pay for what he did, he doesn't believe in killing the man so this is next best solution. However, not everything goes as planned and he might end up hating himself before this whole ordeal is done with.

Stacey can't believe that the person who was so kind to her when her father died is now kidnapping her. She wants to hate him but is quite unable to do so. Because at the end of the day she understands him, his motivation, and his need to do everything he could for his family. Family is everything. And she needs to worry about hers. There is no way she would let anyone hurt her brother. So they are both at an impasse, something needs to change before they can work their relationship out.

It's a very well-written story, leaning towards dark romance, but it's not quite that. There are many sweet, heartwarming moments in there as well. All is all, it's a great read, well-paced and very interesting. I enjoyed reading it and would recommend to all romance lovers.

P.S. I received a complimentary copy of this book via NetGalley.

CASSIDY'S BIO
I’m a longtime reader of romance, erotica, sci-fi and horror. I’ve aspired to become an author and have been working toward this for a few years. My first goal for 2018 was to actually make it happen, and with a few sixteen-hour days, I did it! My first release, Girl Talk, happened on Valentines Day 2018.
My second book, Awakening, is quite a bit darker. Although it falls under the #lesfic category, readers looking for the warm-hearted “feel good” atmosphere of Girl Talk won’t find that here. You’ll travel with me into a dank BDSM dungeon where you’ll endure a delicious nightmare — all the while unsure of whether it’s real, or just a dream!
Other than my sister, who is my best friend in the world, my family doesn’t know I write — manuscripts of Girl Talk and especially, Awakening would probably not be well-received at Easter Brunch. Same holds true with the “day-job” profession I’m in — so I keep those circles at arm’s length when it comes to my writing.
When I’m not writing, I enjoy playing board and card games — the real, physical ones. Although my sister Allison and I do play Words With Friends and I even let her win a few. I love to travel, and in May I made a trip to historic Wrigley Field to watch my beloved Marlins get trounced — all in the name of research for another of my upcoming books. One hundred percent tax-deductible research, of course!
I also like to cook, often prompted by seeing something delicious posted on social media. I’m deathly afraid of heights and won’t go near the railing at the mall, but I’ve actually jumped out of an airplane. So go figure.
I look forward to taking my readers on a journey!

"AWAKENING" EXCERPT
You take appraisal of your senses, beyond the feel of the rope around your arms... the steel cuffs on your ankles... You can’t see anything thanks to the blindfold, and can't speak for the ball gag secured in your mouth.
You slowly begin to realize that it’s not entirely quiet. You still your breathing to listen. In the distance, you can hear other people. Talking, some shouting... and some moaning. An occasional yelp of bliss. In other words, a couple nearby is having sex. Perhaps multiple couples. Or groups...
And now, you are singling out other sounds. A dull thwack sound, accompanied by an utterance of pain and immediately followed by a cry of “one!” Another thwack, another corresponding bellow of “two!” As you listen, you realize somebody is being spanked — probably with some sort of heavy paddle — and is being made to count the number of blows as the paddle continues to strike its fleshy target.
As the count approaches double digits, there’s another sound, much closer. Something whistling, cutting through the air and delivering a loud, resounding CRACK! which is followed by an agonized shriek — and then repeated. Someone is being whipped.
You wonder if you’ll be next, again thinking about how naked, helpless, and vulnerable you are at the moment.
But who has brought you here? And why?
Again, you try to remind yourself this must be a dream, but you’re less than successful in convincing yourself. You shudder fearfully.
From nearby — very nearby — a low laugh...

Release Blitz + Excerpt: Glimmer by Ashley Munoz

GLIMMER

AUTHOR: ASHLEY MUNOZ

RELEASE DATE: SEPTEMBER 14, 2018
GENRE: CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE/MC ROMANCE
COVER DESIGNER: DEE GARCIA
Ramsey

I had one goal: get through this stupid year. That's all my mother had left to live, and I wasn't spending it anywhere else but by her side.

Then I met him.

Single father, alleged MC member, and the worlds best mini pizza maker.

I was playing with fire, and I should have known better than to assume I wouldn't get burned. My goals, future, none of it mattered once his demons came to collect.

Jimmy

She’s a storm that came in quick, consuming everything in her path. I was a fool to think I wouldn't drown. She's too good for me. Sophisticated sass in high heels, crunches numbers for a living and wears braids in her hair.

I want her.

But I shouldn't. I'm not good for her, not after what happened. They say that even the darkness has radiance hidden somewhere within it. Just this once, I hope that’s true because I need her to be my light. My hope. My glimmer.
Bright rays of sunshine danced across my closed eyelids. It was nice, warm, inviting. It was the kind of sunshine you'd feel closer to midday, not early morning. I cracked my eyes open and scanned the room; indeed, the white light coming in was not from the early morning sun. Shit, it had to be late. I fumbled for my phone to check the time.

"12:30? That can’t be right," I wondered out loud while looking around my room. The “Are you still watching?” screen was still displayed on the TV from my Netflix binge the night before, and the big pile of clothes on the floor that I kept promising myself I’d go through was all lit up with the afternoon glow. Wow, I had really slept in past noon. I made a sound that came out like a scoff, or a disappointed laugh and laid back down. Screw this day and everyone in it.

I was pulling one of my large pillows over my face when I realized that my mother should have woken me up. Panic surged through me. She’d never let me sleep in this late. Cancer or not, she would always come into my room and start ‘cleaning’ if I slept past 9:30. I jumped up from the ball of blankets that I was tangled under and made my way into the hallway. I began charging towards the other side of the house, where my mom slept.

“Mom?!” I yelled through the house, hoping to hear her tender voice soothe my worry. I hated this; it felt like I just woke up in the Twilight Zone.

Shit, what if something happened? What if I could have helped her? My throat was starting to close as I thought about what could have happened to her or why she hadn't woken me, and why I’d overslept, to begin with. I winced as I remembered last night's disaster. I couldn't sleep. I tried, trust me. It wasn't like I wanted that pathetic mess running like a bad TV marathon in my head.

I was desperate to settle my mind, so I turned on The Office and drowned my sorrows in the hilarious life of Michael Scott while I ate dry Captain Crunch from the box. Sleep must have claimed me at some point because I was just now waking up and it was already noon. Freaking noon! I never had in my life slept in this long, not even after a game. The panic and concern for why my mother didn't wake me surged back with full force and filtered into every hard-footed stomp I made towards the living room.

"Mom?" There was still no answer, but then I heard my mother giggle. I knew it was her because she did a little snort at the end. Then I heard a male laugh, not a giggle, but a deep tenor laugh, husky if you will. It made my arms erupt with goose bumps, like my body was warning me to get the hell out of there. I slowed my pace and started creeping down the hall while moving my head carefully around the corner until I could see.

The only problem was, once I was able to see, I realized too late that whoever the laughing stranger was would be able to see me as well. My mom was looking at me like I was a deranged lunatic, and my brain slowed down, and heart stopped as I took in the other face. Jimmy the Jerk couldn't actually be sitting in my living room. Except that he was. Jimmy stopped talking to my mother and slowly stood, his blue jeans straightened, and his dark green shirt pulled tight against his chest with the movement. That color shirt matches his eyes. Shit, I shouldn’t notice that. All those tattoos were hidden by the blue zip-up sweatshirt he wore. Jimmy the Fist. I thought of what I heard last night at the bar and wondered how accurate the rumors about him were. My eyes lingered on the barely visible black scrawl that climbed up his neck. I wonder what it says? I hated that I noticed that damn tattoo again, or how he looked. I hated even more that I liked how he looked.

My mother cleared her throat while staring daggers at me. Her eyes squinted, and her lips thinned into a line. I followed her angry gaze and realized it was zoned in on my chest. I knew that look; it was the same look she gave me growing up when I wanted to wear ripped jeans to church or a spaghetti-strapped tank. I quickly looked down at what had offended her and saw that I was wearing a neon green tank top with the letters 'STD' printed on the front. A hilarious college joke from the student tech department, which at the moment wasn't funny, and I suppose neither was the fact that I had charged down the hallway in boy shorts underwear.

I instinctively pulled the hem of my tank down to cover my legs, but it caused the scoop neck of the tank to dip further. My mother's eyes jumped to my face then my boobs. Shit, I wasn't even wearing a bra. This was a nightmare. I glanced at Jimmy the Jerk for a second to see if maybe he was looking away or doing anything to help me through this awkward moment, but when I caught his gaze, his green eyes were boring into mine. He was standing with his hands in his pockets, feet spread apart, and his jaw locked in place. I didn’t look away; I wanted to challenge him, see how long he’d watch me. I quirked my brow as his stare roamed down the length of my body. Take it all in buddy; you’ll never see this train wreck again.

I withheld the urge to pull a Vanna White and move my hand vertically along my half-naked body, as if it were some prize. My mom moved to stand, then approached me slowly.

“Ramsey, you're finally awake.”

I gave her a tight-lipped smile while I moved my arms to my chest, I had given up on the hemline. I refused to think about my hair, or face, or how either of them currently looked. My mother gently touched my arm as she looked back towards Jimmy. I noticed that his blond hair was neatly combed to the side, and as much as I didn't want to admit it, he looked good—really good. I studied the way his long hair on top fell across his forehead. I wanted to push it off his face and run my fingers through it. What the hell? I hated him. I needed to remember that I hated this man. But even villains can have great hair.

Speaking of villains, I could feel my face finally catch up to the shame of being seen like this by my new mortal enemy. His stare was still cold, calculated, and frustrating. He wasn't looking away from me or moving to leave. I could only imagine the things he thought of me now. No, I didn't give a shit what he thought of me. I just wanted him gone, both out of my house and out of my life. The anger that was so dominant from the night before started to surface again.

“What are you doing here?” I seethed, trying so hard to keep my anger in check. I wanted to scream at him, shout, possibly throw something. Whatever it took to get through his stupid, beautiful head that I didn’t want him here. His face paled and he shifted on his feet. He seemed like he was struggling for a response.

Finally, he managed to get out, “I came here to talk to you. Could we go somewhere, uh, private, like the kitchen or something?”

I liked that he was nervous and stammering like an idiot. my Mom took that as her cue and yawned, then gently closed the space between us and kissed my cheek.

“It’s time for my afternoon nap, sweetie.” Then she looked at Jimmy and smiled bigger than I have ever seen her smile. Traitor. “Jimmy, it was nice to meet you. I look forward to seeing you again.”

He smiled back at her and nodded. “Same here, Ms. Carla, thank you for the iced tea.”

So, it was possible for him to be nice. Who knew?

Jimmy's gaze cut back at mine, and the smile he gave my mom fell away from his lips. He watched me with a measured reluctance, like he was waiting for me to make my move. I wouldn't give him the satisfaction. My arms were still crossed, and my spine was straight as an arrow. I refused to look weak in front of him. Messy, crazy, and possibly like a hoarder, but not weak. He looked down at the carpet, pulled his hands from his pockets, and placed them on his hips like he was thinking. “Ramsey, look, I'm…”

I put my hand up to stop him before my brain could even catch up. Fight or flight, I was going to fight. I was already on edge, and since I refused to give him the chance to explain, or the benefit of the doubt, I stopped him from speaking. He would get nothing from me, not even the courtesy of me hearing him out.

“Jimmy, let me stop you there. I don’t know why you came to my house, why you didn’t take the fact that I was asleep as a cue to not come inside, and to leave me the hell alone. But I don’t want you here, and I don’t want to talk to you, so please leave.”

He looked shocked, his eyes wide and his lips parted. He had one hand on his hip, and the other out, like he was waiting for a low five or just still frozen from trying to talk. Then he began to rub his jaw. He coughed before he replied, “Look, I know I have been a bit of a jerk, but just give me a chance to explain.”

My arms grew tight as I pulled them in closer to my chest, like armor. “No thanks, Jimmy, I don’t need to hear you explain. Your actions have spoken louder than any word you could possibly utter today. I won’t go back to Theo’s, and I won’t go back to your bar. As far as I am concerned, our business dealings are done. We can both act like we never met each other, I don’t want to see you again after this. If you see me in the store, go the other way, don’t say hi to me, just leave me alone."

I paused, looking down, and gathered what strength I had left to kick the man out. I had never been this mean or forceful with another human being before, so it all felt like a rush. I lifted my head and stared straight through him as I said, "Please let yourself out.”

Cover Reveal: Hate Notes by Vi Keeland & Penelope Ward

COVER & SYNOPSIS REVEAL

HateNotesTITLE2.png
A standalone romance novel published by Montlake Romance
By: New York Times Bestselling Authors Vi Keeland & Penelope Ward
Release Date: Tuesday, November 6, 2018

SYNOPSIS:

It all started with a mysterious blue note sewn into a wedding dress. Something blue. I’d gone to sell my own unworn bridal gown at a vintage clothing store. That’s when I found another bride’s “something old.” Stitched into the lining of a fabulously feathered design was the loveliest message I’d ever read: Thank you for making all of my dreams come true. The name embossed on the blue stationery: Reed Eastwood, obviously the most romantic man who ever lived. I also discovered he’s the most gorgeous. If only my true-love fantasies had stopped there. Because I’ve since found out something else about Mr. Starry-Eyed. He’s arrogant, cynical, and demanding. I should know. Thanks to a twist of fate, he’s my new boss. But that’s not going to stop me from discovering the story behind his last love letter. A love letter that did not result in a happily ever after. But that story is nothing compared to the one unfolding between us. It’s getting hotter, sweeter, and more surprising than anything I could have imagined. Something new. But I have no idea how this one is going to end . . . Hate Notes final paperback cover Hate Notes final ebook cover
