Review: DragonFly by Charles A Cornell

DragonFly (Missions of the DragonFly Squadron #1)

A young woman with the fate of a nation in her hands.
An aircraft designed by science, fueled by magic and flown with passion.
A World War re-imagined like never before.

Strap yourself in for a wild ride as award-winning author Charles A. Cornell takes you on his dieselpunk adventure, DragonFly; a collision of science fiction with fantasy that fast forwards steampunk into an alternative World War Two.

In 1942, an unlikely heroine changes the course of history.

On the eve of invasion by the Nazis, twenty-two year old RAF pilot Veronica ‘Ronnie’ Somerset is fighting another battle - winning respect within the stuffy, male-dominated British military. She’s feisty and brash and determined to overcome every obstacle to become Britain’s first female combat pilot.

When Ronnie is re-assigned to Enysfarne, a mysterious Royal Navy base off the coast of Cornwall, fate places her inside the cockpit of the most revolutionary aircraft ever invented. Brilliant engineer, Dr. Nigel Pennbridge has discovered quadra-hydrogen, an element that powers the DragonFly, a remarkable fighter-bomber that carries the hopes of Britain on its blue and silver wings.

Across the English Channel, Nazi Germany is busy planning its next conquest. Reichsführer Bernhardt Morax, Hitler's personal sorcerer and leader of the Third Reich’s Zauber Korps is preparing his Blutskriegers for the invasion; bio-mechanical warriors created by a depraved occult science whose dark secrets cross the boundaries of evil.

In DragonFly, Veronica Somerset’s adventures unfold in two self-contained novellas:

In Part I: ‘To Hell and Back’, Ronnie proves she’s a hard-nosed, quick-thinking daredevil. She embarks on a dangerous mission behind enemy lines to spy on Hitler's invasion plans and rescue a defecting officer from the Zauber Korps. Hans Schüller is a Nachtjäger or Night Hunter who introduces her to psychic powers she didn’t know she possessed; powers that entwine her destiny with his.

In Part II: ‘Victory or Death’, DragonFly comes to its dramatic conclusion. The Nazi invasion fleet is gathering off the shores of England. Morax, with help from his spies, is determined to seize the DragonFly and unlock the secrets of Enysfarne’s Druid past. Will the Druid wizard, Affodill - whose ancestral home of Enysfarne has been expropriated by the Royal Navy - join forces with the British, or will he make a pact with the evil Morax? Can Princess Victoria and Ronnie Somerset convince Affodill to place his magic in the service of a nation that has betrayed his Druid ancestors for centuries?

‘DragonFly – the Illustrated Edition’ is the ultimate DragonFly reading experience! It’s packed with sixty illustrations that make the action jump off the page, including character dossiers, historical ‘retrographs’ and fantastic designs of retro-futuristic aircraft. Eleven of the sixty illustrations are exclusive to this omnibus edition of DragonFly and will be unavailable anywhere else!

It is an interesting re-imagining of World War II. Especially for people who like strong female characters and a little magic thrown into the mix. It tends towards sci-fiction fantasy and I absolutely loved it. I admit that I don't know much about the World War. But I liked this version of the story.
shows us a world where one woman is hard bend on getting respect and acknowledgement in a men's dominating environment. Then by stroke of luck she gets to pilot Dragonfly, an experimental aircraft. And then she changes the course of history with her sheer determination.
I loved the plot, characters and most important the writing style of this book. I loved how this book has so many different aspects that will touch a readers heart. Once started, it was hard to put down. I can't wait to read more of it, it was thrilling, entertaining and quite literally aw inspiring.

Review: Dragon's Revenge by Kasper Beaumont

Dragon's Revenge (Hunters of Reloria, #3)

Dragon's Revenge is the thrilling conclusion to the Hunters of Reloria trilogy.

Magical Reloria is beset by hordes of invading enemy ships carrying giants with ocular laser beams. People and creatures from across the land band together against the invasion, while our group of heroes, the Hunters of Reloria, seek to restore the defensive shield to their borders. A savage attack on the dragons’ town decimates the population and leads the surviving dragon to pledge revenge against the invaders.
Epic battles with dragons and giants ensue, leading to a thrilling climax.

Dragon's Revenge is the conclusion of Hunters of Reloria series. I have read and reviewed the first two books and waiting for this one to be released. I loved this series and had a lot of fun reading about amazing world of Reloria. In many ways it reminded be of the "middle earth" but it also possess an originality that made it all the more fun.

This third book starts from where the book 2 left off. On one side Reloria is under attack and on the other princess and her companions are struggling to get away from their enemies, trapped in a foreign planet with no way of getting to Reloria in sight. later they joined forces with rebels and were able to rescue wizards. Who then helped them to open a portal, so that they cab return to their homeland. Things are getting fierce by the day and mountain people were killed. When hunters are re-united, their mission was to fight and defeat their common enemy.

We meet some new characters along the way and all the old characters remain just as entertaining as before. My favourite character in this one is Asher-a shape shifter, who is mountain man and a dragon at the same time. But all the other characters are good too. and the climax was indeed epic. Loved it and recommend it to all book lovers/readers.

  5-Stars Review

Although I have yet to read an entangled book which I didn't love, this one was exceptional. I loved it and I think it is a must read for historical romance lovers. All the characters and places are beautifully described. Plot is great and well executed. Most of the story depicts Indian setting and I loved the historical aspect of it too.
Suri is a half-caste girl who has always found herself out of place in English environment. When she gets a chance to visit her sister in India she decided to find her mother's family and get some closure. But things didn't go the way she had hoped.
First she learnt that a Duke's brother who had kissed her ten years ago, and she had been unable to stop think about, was in India as well. Then she also met her mother's family but found herself in the middle of a conspiracy against British.
Duke of Ravenswood remembered Suri as well. He had often thought about her and when he saw her again in India things get heated again. He desired her with a passion and can't help but feel jealous of Ravi-ji, an Indian who seemed to be attracted to Suri as well.
Things get complicated when Suri is invited to an Indian wedding. Will they be able to get out of India alive and what happens even if they did?

The story is intriguing and readers will find themselves enthralled by the way things enfold throughout.

5-Stars Review

This is the firs Abby Niles' book I have read but it won't be the last. I absolutely loved it! It is a story about two damaged people who healed each other. The both went through tragedy which changed them forever.

Mac choose to close himself after losing his family, while Gayle tried to free herself. But both were in fact doing the same thing, i.e. running from the realities of life. Then they met each other and things changed. Gayle was intrigued by grumpy fighter and Mac was falling in love with thrilling storm-chaser. Together they went through series of events that thought them to accept their respective pasts and move on to the future.

There have been a lot of "swoon worthy" moments in this book. I loved Mac and Gayle's couple. They challenged and brought out the best in each other. I recommend this book to all romance lovers.

Release Blitz + Review + Giveaway: Fated (5 Paranormal New Adult Novels)

The Fated 5 have come together to bring you a collection of five steamy new adult urban fantasies about sacrifice, second chances, destiny and love against all odds.
With fan favorites from new adult and urban fantasy bestsellers Rachael Wade, Nikki Jefford, Stacey Marie Brown, Alyssa Rose Ivy and Heather Hildenbrand.

***Available for a LIMITED TIME only!***
Five full-length novels only 99 cents.

Amaranth by Rachael Wade – Camille moves to Southern Louisiana to escape her abusive past, not expecting to fall in love and plummet into the world of Amaranth, a place of exile for reformed vampires.
A very interesting, unique and fresh vampire story, that will make you want read more of it. Fortunately, you can as it is just book one in a trilogy. Although it can be read as stand alone. I like how the story started and loved the first encounter Camille had with Gavin. It was in Paris, while she was escaping her past and trying to decide what she wants for her future. After that they did not meet for almost two years and Camille all but forgot about the mysterious stranger.

Now, once again she finds herself in a bind. All her efforts to protect herself seem futile, then out of the blue she once again ran into Gavin and a story started. It is full of twists and turns that will keep you on your toes and the ending was so unexpected that I can't wait to read the rest of the books in this series.

It turned out that Gavin is a vampire, not only that her ex-boyfriend was one too. And now her life might be in danger because of her association with the vampires. Gavin is adamant that he can overcome all the obstacles in their path and defeat vampire queen to restore their freedom. Camille is also not the one to stay behind and hence both end up running away on an adventure that might end in their death or worse...

the one thing I loved about this book was the way it combined contemporary and paranormal aspects of the plot. Everything felt very realistic and that makes it a best fantasy I've read in a while. It was hard to put down once i started reading, definitely recommended.

Aurora Sky: Vampire Hunter by Nikki Jefford– Thanks to her rare blood type, Aurora’s forced to hunt vampires in Alaska. Now Aurora’s only friends are groupies of the undead and the only boy she can think about may very well be a vampire.
Another amazing vampire story, just as fresh in its plot as book one in this bundle of five paranormal books. Again it is book one in a series. Aurora is a normal teen until she had an accident and her life changed for good. She was rescued by special agents and now she is a vampire hunter, whether she likes it or not. Her life's mission is to kill these demonic creatures. She is taught how to and a mentor is assigned to her. Dante is a vampire hunter too and he has to teach Aurora all there is to learn about killing vampires.

This doesn't mean that she can avoid her problems at school. Although, in light of new reality school doesn't seem all that important to her. Fane however is another issue entirely. She is attracted to him. He is mysterious and dark. They team up in gym class and then started going out. Things doesn't end very well for them but at least they tried.

The ending of this book was really epic. I loved it and can't wait to read the next book.

Darkness of Light by Stacey Marie Brown – Ember has never fit in. After she lands herself in a facility for troubled teens, she meets the darkly mysterious and hot as hell, Eli Dragen who is keeping secrets that can’t stay hidden much longer.

This was an awesome book about supernatural beings. From the beginning till end it kept me enthralled. It was full of mystery and suspense. All the time I kept wondering what will happen next. So far in this bundle I loved Darkness of Light the most, although above two books were not bad at all either.

Ember has always been treated as a freak. Unique colour of her eyes made it impossible for her to live a normal life. Not only that, she also has this ability to end up in bad situations. After she found her mother'd dead body (or what was left of it) she was never the same again. Therapists couldn't help her either so it was up to her to present as normal a front a possible, for her step-father's sake.

After a particularly bad incident at school she was sent to a special school for troubled teens. There she met Dragen brothers and things changed for worst.  Eli Dragen is both dangerous and mysterious, a lethal combination no girl can resist. He is also attracted to Ember although he tries his best not to. He seemed to know things Ember doesn't and no matter how hard she tries he never let her get close enough to find out the truth.

The ending of this book will let you intrigued and you will want to read the rest of the books in this series as well. So far I have found three awesome series to follow thanks to this bundle edition.

Flight by Alyssa Rose Ivy – A summer in New Orleans leads to a chance encounter with the infuriating yet alluring Levi. Allie finds herself at the center of a supernatural society and forced to decide between following the path she has always trusted or saving a city that might just save her.

This is also a 5-star read. More towards the romantic side and less action but still just as good as other books in this bundle. The ending was epic and you will definitely love it if you liked mysterious heroes and stubborn heroines. ;)

Whisper by Heather Hildenbrand – Five months after Whisper is released from the Skye View Wellness Center she stumbles upon an unconscious boy at a bonfire party who holds the key to breaking her curse.

I think this one is by far the best book in Fated bundle. I loved it from the beginning till end. Its also the only complete book. The story was engaging and all the characters lovable.

P.S.  I gave Fated 5-stars on goodreads. Really enjoyed reading all five books :) So glad that I could get an ARC.

I feel ridiculous. And I bet I look ridiculous.
My ingenious plan isn’t so genius now that I’m actually acting it out. I’m a tad chilly and am getting a slight cramp, but I have no time to chicken out because the front door downstairs has just closed.
My plans of escape are long gone.
Rearranging myself, I shuffle up the bed quietly, listening intently.
I can hear bottles in the fridge rattle as Jasper opens the door, no doubt standing in front of it, the dim light inside bouncing off his perfect features as he grabs a beer.
I hope he’s not hungry, as I can’t remain in this position much longer without losing face.
Thankfully, I hear his heavy footsteps trudge up the stairs, and my insides do a tiny flip-flop in excitement, and trepidation.
This is it, Ava. You’re a strong, powerful sexy woman. My goals are more important than my fear. I am the lioness of the jungle, ready to pounce.
Who the hell uses these positive affirmations, because they are so not helping right now!
Taking a deep, steady breath as Jasper opens his bedroom door, I can see he’s taken aback when confronted with the millions of candles I have laid around the bedroom, trying to set a mood, and hopefully, not setting the house on fire in the process.
“What the…” he gasps, and then his eyes land on his bed.
Well, they land on me.
I am lying on his bed, in the most seductive pose I can muster, without looking like a total dweeb.
“Ava?” he asks as he steps into his bedroom, slightly stunned to see me sprawled on his bed like a Playboy Bunny.
“Happy birthday,” I reply softly, giving him my best attempt at ‘bedroom eyes.’
I practiced in the mirror for about twenty minutes, so it better come across as sexy, and not like I’m severely cross-eyed.
He strolls over to the end of the bed, looking down where I lay, propped up on one elbow with a knee bent, gazing up at him.
“Th-thanks,” he stutters while eying my body not so discreetly.
Win for me! Jasper, who is usually so eloquent, is lost for words.
Smoothing out my black chiffon nightgown, which scarcely covers my bare skin, Jasper watches intently as my hands glide over my flesh. I demand the blush about to creep over my body to keep away, because now is not the time for modesty.
He licks his bow lips and runs a hand through his hair, fisting it into a messy peak. He looks amazing. Even at 2a.m., after working all night, he looks as if he’s stepped off a runway in his grey sleeveless hoodie and faded blue jeans, which are tucked into his loosely tied, scuffed combat boots.
“Are you my birthday present?” he asks, his eyes lingering on the sheer material at my breasts.
Before I have a chance to answer or blush he adds, “Because if you are, I want to unwrap you now.”

His Forbidden Lady by Nicola Davidson

His Forbidden Lady

Tudor England, 1542
When beautiful widow Lady Annabelle Benton-Hayes is ordered to court, she is terrified. Henry VIII desires a sixth queen for his bloodstained throne, and her scheming family cares not for her wishes. Annabelle yearns for love, but there is no escaping her fate: escorting her is Rafe de Vere, the man who abandoned her to become England's most loyal and brutally successful soldier. Rafe is utterly weary of war and its impossible demands. Thankfully, his final task is the easiest: accompany a wellborn lady to London for Henry's perusal. Until he discovers she is Annabelle, the woman who swore to wait for him but married another. Rafe isn't permitted to care, yet time hasn't dulled their sizzling attraction and his orders are increasingly difficult to obey. To love her, he would have to risk all and cross his king to secure the ultimate prize - Annabelle's heart. A Scandalous Novella

5-Stars Review

I liked the story as well as the characters. It is written in an engaging way and kept me intrigued. I wanted to see  how they will over come obstacles in their way. I think it portrays a very realistic picture of Tudor England. It was a good romantic short story.

When Lady Annabelle is ordered to court she is very unhappy. She did not want to marry yet another man who would not love her for herself. She wanted courtship and romance but her family had other plans. and there was nothing she could do about it. Rafe is ordered to escort her to the court. A hardened soldier, he should not care about the lady in question but she was the only woman who ever touched his heart. Both were unable to resist the pull towards each other. They knew it was treason, they knew Henry can very well kill them both but they did not give it a second thought before running away together. Because any life where they were together was better than the life they would be forced to live. Now the question is whether they would be able to cross their king and live to tell the tale or not?

It is an engaging tale of love. Although a short novel, it is still able to reflect the feelings and actions of all the characters in a way which will make it a worthwhile read. I'll recommend it to all readers, whether you like historical romance or not, I am sure you'll like this one. ;)

The Wager by Lily Maxton

The Wager

London, 1818
Anne Middleton never plays by the rules. She is willful when she should be obedient and unabashed when she should be decorous. Worse still, she can never resist a good wager... or a very naughty book. And Confessions of a Courtesan is about as sensational and risque as a book can be. Michael Grey - Earl of Thornhill - had once courted Anne's sweet and modest sister. But whilst Anne is certainly no lady of decorum, her bold impulsiveness slips through his armor, and propriety is forgotten. Now he too is immersed in the book of forbidden delights, where each page is an invitation to sin and a guide to pleasures unknown... Roused by heady desire, Michael tempts Anne in a way she cannot resist - a wager. Thus begins a game of chance, where coins have been replaced by a currency that is far more illicit. And the stakes of seduction are dangerous indeed... A Scandalous Novella

5-Stars Review

My second book this month and another awesome read. If you are looking for short, sweet as well as scandalous novel, then you will love this one. I'm so glad I was able to snag a review copy. ;)

Anne loves to wager and she hates to lose. When she and her sister made a wager about a scandalous book, which might or might not be in a certain Lord's library, things didn't go as smoothly as Anne would've liked. As she encountered Lord Thornhill and he is not someone she is overly fond of, she actually dislike him as much as he dislikes her. But then they corresponded with each other a few times and started to get along. And the next thing we know they mad e wager of their own. With that begins a story which will have you enthralled. It's interesting and very well written. Both Lord Thornhill and Anne's characters are awesome. I really liked it and felt that it ended too soon. But may be that's part of its charm. :)

The Irresistible Miss Peppiwell by Stacy Reid

The Irresistible Miss Peppiwell

With a longing for adventure, the last thing Phillipa Peppiwell wants is to marry. After a painful betrayal by a man she trusted, she is wary when she unwittingly catches the attention of roguishly handsome - and sinfully tempting - Lord Anthony Thornton. Forbidden desires she secretly yearns for threaten to crumble her icy facade and reveal a past scandal best kept buried.

Dissatisfied with his empty life, Lord Anthony seeks a deep and lasting connection... and finds himself intrigued by the Ice Maiden of the haute monde. Undaunted by Phillipa's aloof nature and her distaste for the idea of matrimony, he sets out to thaw the bewitching beauty by enticing her with adventures of the most sensual type. But he, too, hides a scandalous secret... and if it's discovered it could rip them apart.

5-Stars Review

First of all let me just say that I love the cover and the book as well. Story is good and all the characters, especially Phillipa, are likable. She is strong, passionate and adventurous, which makes her a perfect female lead character in my humble opinion. I also liked the fact that the book was well paced and kept me entertained until the very end. I recommend it to all historical romance lovers. It's a must read novel.

Lord Anthony is looking for a bride and Miss Peppiwell is not interested in marriage. But they are a perfect couple. The chemistry between them is undeniable and scorching hot. Anthony is Alpha at heart but he has an honourable and sensitive side too. While Phillipa is cold and closed off, very few know that she has an adventurous and rebellious side too. Both have a dislike for society's rules. They do not want to bend to society's will and want a life where they can have freedom to choose whatever way they want to live. They want to be scandalous.

Although they have lived very different lives, they are very similar in many ways. That's the reason why Anthony is sure that Miss Peppiwell is a perfect bride for him. Now the trouble is that she doesn't agree and it will not be easy to convince her. Phillipa is wary of men and she doesn't want to get married to one. She thinks that marriage will bind her and make it impossible to have the freedom she so craves. She loves Anthony but all she wants is to be his friend and lover. She is definitely not looking to wed. But when she is taken by crazy/nasty Lord Orwell, things change. She saw a side of Anthony she hadn't before and it just might convince her to accept his marriage proposal after all.
