Submerged by Cheryl Kaye Tardif

Two strangers submerged in guilt, brought together by fate…
After a tragic car accident claims the lives of his wife, Jane, and son, Ryan, Marcus Taylor is immersed in grief. But his family isn't the only thing he has lost. An addiction to painkillers has taken away his career as a paramedic. Working as a 911 operator is now the closest he gets to redemption—until he gets a call from a woman trapped in a car.
Rebecca Kingston yearns for a quiet weekend getaway, so she can think about her impending divorce from her abusive husband. When a mysterious truck runs her off the road, she is pinned behind the steering wheel, unable to help her two children in the back seat. Her only lifeline is a cell phone with a quickly depleting battery and a stranger's calm voice on the other end telling her everything will be all right.

I truly enjoy a good thriller and this one is the best. It is a very interesting and thrilling book which will keep you on your toes until the end. I will recommend it to all mystery/thriller lovers as it is must read book for them.
Marcus is a recovering drug addict. Because of his addiction he lost his wife and son and now he is guilt ridden, afraid to sleep and just sad. He often sees his wife and son's ghosts and talk to them. It seems that he simply cannot let go of the past. He works as 911 operator and trying to redeem himself. For him its not always easy to distinguish between duty and the right thing to do....
Rebecca on the other hand is a mother of two, soon getting a divorce from her abusive husband. She is in a desperate need of vacation and "own time" and just want to get away from everything for a while. Due to a last minute change she has to take both her kids along with her on this vacation but that's not the only thing which doesn't go as she planned...
...An accident which brought these two strangers together and put them in a situation from which neither of them can emerge unscathed...
Cheryl's way of writing is so engaging that it makes reading all the more fun. Plot is good and all the characters are interesting as well as well developed. I loved it and give it a 5-star.

Bloodlines Series by Richelle Mead

Bloodlines (Bloodlines, #1)

Goodreads' Description:
Rose's story might have wrapped up in the Vampire Academy series, but there's still lots more to tell about the other characters from that world. This spin-off series centers around Sydney the Alchemist, a human teen who's part of a group to keep the existence of vampires secret from the world. Sydney's spent her entire life being taught that vampires and dhampirs are evil and unnatural, but all that's about to change when she's forced into hiding with Jill, Adrian, and Eddie...

Books In Reading Order:
1. Bloodlines
2. The Golden Lily
3. The Indigo Spell
4. The Fiery Heart
5. Silver Shadows
6. (Untitled)

My Review of The Series:
This is a Vampire Academy's spin-off series but in my opinion ten times better than it. So far four books have been published. It is expected to have six books in total. All four book are 5-Star reads. I absolutely loved reading about Adrian and Sydney. All the side characters are well written and interesting as well.

Sydney is an Alchemist, they hate vampires and dhampirs. Because these creatures are not part of our world, they are not normal and hence should be hated. But all Alchemists believe in keeping their existence a secret. There is no need for humans to find out about these "evil" creatures. This is what Sydney had believed as well but her encounter with Rose had changed her a little and then when she was forced to live with Moroi girl Jill, her believes about all vampires being evil, changed. She realised that they were good too. Strigoi were the evil vampires, to be feared and killed if given a chance but not the Moroi. Sydney is a perfectionist and her task here is to keep Moroi princess safe and out of harm's way. She was kind of a babysitter and took her job seriously but she was also having fun getting whole "school" experience.

Adrian saved Jill's life using spirit magic and now they were bound together. He was here only because of the connection he now shared with Jill. He is heartbroken after Rose's selfish behaviour towards him. Everyone things that he is useless and expect the worst from him. Only Sydney believes in him and sees him for who he is. She convinced him to get admission in art school and continue with his life as normally as possible.

Sydney and Adrian make an odd couple, a human and a Moroi, it unheard of. Its a taboo. Hence they keep their affair a secret...

Jill, Eddie, Angeline, Trey, Zoe and Neil are also at Palm Springs all working towards a same cause but all having their own secrets and hang-ups which make this series interesting and fun to read. It revolves around Alchemists, their believes and how they are wrong in many things, Sydney's struggle when she finally found out the truth about Alchemists, Warrior of light and her own magical powers. She must decide whom to trust. It wasn't an easy path for her and things were never quite in small town of Palm Springs. There were many dangers and exciting things which kept happening. Some of the main characters from Vampire Academy also made an appearance in this series.

The first three books can be read as stand alone but the fourth book ends with a cliffhanger thus my anticipation for fifth book is off-charts. It is expected to be published in July and I am looking forward to read it. I hope the series end in a good way so that I can still say that it was a 5-Star series.

Last Sacrifice (Vampire Academy #6) by Richelle Mead

Last Sacrifice (Vampire Academy, #6)

They come first.

My vision was growing dimmer, the blackness and ghosts closing in. I swore it was like I could hear Robert whispering in my ear: The world of the dead won't give you up a second time. Just before the light completely vanished, I saw Dimitri's face join Lissa's. I wanted to smile. I decided then that if the two people I loved most were safe, I could leave this world.

The dead could finally have me.

Rose Hathaway has always played by her own rules. She broke the law when she ran away from St. Vladimir's Academy with her best friend and last surviving Dragomir princess, Lissa. She broke the law when she fell in love with her gorgeous, off-limits instructor, Dimitri. And she dared to defy Queen Tatiana, leader of the Moroi world, risking her life and reputation to protect generations of dhampir guardians to come.

Now the law has finally caught up with Rose - for a crime she didn't even commit. She's in prison for the highest offense imaginable: the assassination of a monarch. She'll need help from both Dimitri and Adrian to find the one living person who can stall her execution and force the Moroi elite to acknowledge a shocking new candidate for the royal throne: Vasilisa Dragomir.

But the clock on Rose's life is running out. Rose knows in her heart the world of the dead wants her back...and this time she is truly out of second chances. The big question is, when your whole life is about saving others, who will save you?

Join Rose, Dimitri, Adrian, and Lissa in Last Sacrifice, the epic, unforgettable finale to Richelle Mead's international #1 bestsellingVampire Academy series.

This is the last book in Vampire Academy series. I am a little disappointed. It was exactly how I had expected it to end but not the way I had hoped it would. And all that progress and growing up Rose did in last few books kind of reversed. Right now I quite hating her. And I am not happy with her happy ending.

Dimitri was brought back by Lissa of all people. She was brave and with Christian's help, did what she knew she should. She showed the strength of her character and love for Rose. Dimitri is now full of guilt and grief. He is unable to face Rose after what he did to her in Russia and due to that reason refused to be anywhere near her. Rose is of course heart broken. She still loves him and she knows that. Adrian knows that too and asked her what she wanted, but did she break up with him? The answer is, no she didn't. Because she is selfish. She has no regard for his feelings and since Dimitri is not talking to her so definitely she needs someone to pass time. As I said before this is the part I absolutely hate. I would have liked it a little better if the author had, at the very least, made her somewhat confused about her own feelings. She is not. She loves Dimitri but still she stays with Adrian and well you can imagine where that's heading......

The rest was just the same like other books in the series. I liked Sydney's role in this one. She is one of my favourite secondary characters. And I am happy to know that she is main character in Bloodlines, a Vampie Academy's spin-off series. Which I am planning to read just out of curiosity. Also I want to know what happens to Adrian. Although I do not like Jill at all and she will also have main role in Bloodlines. I just hope that she grows up and stop being so self righteous. The way she interfered with Lissa and Christian's relationship was uncool and out of line. I hope she doesn't become another Rose Hathaway.

P.S. I gave this book a 4-star because I liked the series as a whole, regardless of some bad parts. :)

Spirit Bound (Vampire Academy #5) by Richelle Mead

Spirit Bound (Vampire Academy, #5)

Dimitri gave Rose the ultimate choice. But she chose wrong...

After a long and heartbreaking journey to Dimitri's birthplace in Siberia, Rose Hathaway has finally returned to St. Vladimir's-and to her best friend, Lissa. It is nearly graduation, and the girls can't wait for their real lives beyond the Academy's iron gates to begin. But Rose's heart still aches for Dimitri, and she knows he's out there, somewhere.

She failed to kill him when she had the chance. And now her worst fears are about to come true. Dimitri has tasted her blood, and now he is hunting her. And this time he won't rest until Rose joins him... forever.

It was not as good as the last three books but still a 5-star read. It seems that Rose has finally gotten over Dimitri but she keeps getting letters from him. Dimitri can't let Rose go and now that she has refused to be awakened, he wants to kill her.

Rose is now with Adrian. She doesn't love him like she did Dimitri but she is willing to give them a chance. There is still hope that Dimitri can be saved. The big question remained that what will happen in their love triangle? Here I want to say that this is the only thing in this series which I did not like. The reason is that Rose has really really strong feelings for Dimitri and we do not see her wavering from that. But when it comes to third person in these love triangles (Mason in first few book & Adrian in the rest), she doesn't feel much. She likes them but that's all. So in my opinion this makes her character a negative one. Not my favourite. It seems like she is using them to pass time or get over her love. Which is not very impressive if you asked me.

Lissa and Christian remained my favourite characters in this book too. Their side of the story is always fun to read. Sometimes I wonder what this series would have been like if Lissa was the main character instead of Rose. She has better personality. But Rose is not all bad either.

So now the sixth and final book. I really hope that it ends well. Because ending can change my take on the whole series. I have been loving these books so far and I hope that does not change.

Following the recommendations of his council, King Gregorio Derry reluctantly agrees to send his only son William on a mission to restore honor to his family name.
William seeks to complete his assignment, the elimination of a Star-child named Sydney on planet Earth, but when the assassination is delayed he begins to realize an emotional connection with his target.
With conspiracy threatening his home planet, and a hidden menace on Earth seeking to secure a vested interest, William finds himself torn between irrevocable duty and sacrificing everything he stands for to defend Sydney.
As William and Sydney struggle to overcome their impossible circumstances, they start to wonder if the connection of two Star-Crossed lovers will be enough to save them from certain doom.

A 5-Star book. I really had fun reading this one. It was such a good mix of old & new, romance & science fiction and yes, there was a bit of mystery & intrigue thrown into the mix as well. I will recommend it to all readers (no matter which genre you prefer). This is a must read for a lot of people as it is a mix of quite a few genres.

Prince William is a bounty hunter and he has come to planet earth in order to kill the Star-child. When he enters earth atmosphere, there is disturbance and it resulted in earthquakes which no one can find an exact cause of. His mission is to locate the star-child and kill her. He has been warned how difficult this mission can be because star-child posses strange powers which can be infectious. So he must be cautious at all cost and he must not fail....

Sydney is a teenage girl living in a small town. She lives with her grandmother Sarah. Her parents are deceased. When William reached planet earth he takes refuge with the two ladies. Who has no idea about his real identity but are hospitable. Sydney also starts thinking of him as her "Mr. Right". William also feels the attraction but his mission is clear, he has to eliminate star-child and the threat she posses to the universe. He has been taught that star-child can e very dangerous and he cannot let himself be distracted. With guidance from IMPI he will carry out his task in due time.

The best part of the story is its beginning, which is very exciting and mysterious. In the middle it got a little bit slow but the ending was no less interesting. I enjoyed reading it and hope that everyone else does too. :)

Blood Promise (Vampire Academy #4) by Richelle Mead

Blood Promise (Vampire Academy, #4)

Rose Hathaway's life will never be the same.

The recent attack on St. Vladimir's Academy devastated the entire Moroi world. Many are dead. And, for the few victims carried off by Strigoi, their fates are even worse. A rare tattoo now adorns Rose's neck, a mark that says she's killed far too many Strigoi to count. But only one victim matters ... Dimitri Belikov. Rose must now choose one of two very different paths: honoring her life's vow to protect Lissa—her best friend and the last surviving Dragomir princess—or, dropping out of the Academy to strike out on her own and hunt down the man she loves. She'll have to go to the ends of the earth to find Dimitri and keep the promise he begged her to make. But the question is, when the time comes, will he want to be saved?

Now, with everything at stake—and worlds away from St. Vladimir's and her unguarded, vulnerable, and newly rebellious best friend—can Rose find the strength to destroy Dimitri? Or, will she sacrifice herself for a chance at eternal love?

Another 5-star book in the series. Its fun reading these books back to back. In this fourth instalment of vampire academy things have gotten a lot serious. Dimitri was turned into Strigoi and now Rose is on a mission to find him and kill him. This was their promise to each other because they knew no one should live a life of a killer so if you loved someone then the right thing would be to kill them instead. Well, as it turned out that you don't think like that once you are turned into a monster. Dimitri was not happy to find Rose but now he wanted to awaken her as well. So that they might have an eternity together.

Rose went to Russia to find Dimitri. She met his family and killed a number of Strigoi on the way. She also met Sydney, who is an Alchemist. They are human who are given certain powers by Moroi in exchange of taking care of dead Strigoi. To make sure that human never find about secret vampire societies.

Through Rose's bond with Lissa, we also get to see what's been happening in their academy. Lissa and Christian seem to be having troubles in their love life. Avery is Lissa's new friend but can she be trusted?? In the end Rose was able to defeat Dimitri. She went back to Lissa but is it really over?

I am not going to say more than that ;) but I can tell you that things are going to get even better.... or worse, depending on one's point of view. I cannot wait to see how this will end. I am curious to see who gets to have a happy ending and who doesn't....

Shadow Kiss (Vampire Academy #3) by Richelle Mead

It's springtime at St. Vladimir's Academy, and Rose Hathaway is this close to graduation. Since making her first Strigoi kills, Rose hasn't been feeling quite right. She's having dark thoughts, behaving erratically, and worst of all... might be seeing ghosts.

As Rose questions her sanity, new complications arise. Lissa has begun experimenting with her magic once more, their enemy Victor Dashkov might be set free, and Rose's forbidden relationship with Dimitri is starting to heat up again. But when a deadly threat no one saw coming changes their entire world, Rose must put her own life on the line - and choose between the two people she loves most.

In this third book we learn more about "shadow-kissed" Rose. As Liss's and Rose's worst enemy Victor had said, no one returns from death without it leaving a mark on their souls, changing them for good. That was what had happened to Rose. When Liss had brought her back from the brink of death shadows kissed her. She had now a darkness within her and the more she encountered death- like killing Strigoi- the more of its effects would surface. For example, she started seeing Mason's ghost but no one believed her. They thought that stress had made her hallucinate but she knew what she saw and she hoped she was not going crazy. She still felt guilty for his death....

On the other hand things were going well with Liss and Christian. She also started practising magic again. With Adrian's help she was learning new ways to use spirit. I really liked Adrian's character a lot. He was fun and interesting to read about. A lot like Rose in many ways. He seemed quite interested in Rose but knew that Rose was in love with Dimitri and he was willing to wait and see how things went with those two. Both him and Rose's encounters were funny and I enjoyed their banters.

Rose and Dimitri's relation also moved forward in this book. It seemed that they still might get their happily ever after despite all the things going against them. But things didn't go as expected and there was a slight- OK not slight a very big twist in the story- in a battle against Strigoi Dimitri was turned into on of them....
As I said before this series is getting better with each book I read. Its a definite 5-star read. I cannot wait to read more about Rose and how she is going to handle this new deli ma.

Frostbite (Vampire Academy #2) by Richelle Mead

Frostbite (Vampire Academy, #2)

Rose loves Dimitri, Dimitri might love Tasha, and Mason would die to be with Rose...

It’s winter break at St. Vladimir’s, but Rose is feeling anything but festive. A massive Strigoi attack has put the school on high alert, and now the Academy’s crawling with Guardians—including Rose’s hard-hitting mother, Janine Hathaway. And if hand-to-hand combat with her mom wasn’t bad enough, Rose’s tutor Dimitri has his eye on someone else, her friend Mason’s got a huge crush on her, and Rose keeps getting stuck in Lissa’s head while she’s making out with her boyfriend, Christian! The Strigoi are closing in, and the Academy’s not taking any risks... This year, St. Vlad’s annual holiday ski trip is mandatory.

But the glittering winter landscape and the posh Idaho resort only create the illusion of safety. When three friends run away in an offensive move against the deadly Strigoi, Rose must join forces with Christian to rescue them. But heroism rarely comes without a price...

I liked this one even more than book one of the series. In this book characters face Strigoi and didn't come out unscathed. We also get to meet Rose's mother and see their relationship in a new light. A lot of things about her started making sense. Rose's character is at its best and again she made me laugh a lot.

At the beginning of this book Dimitri and Rose stumbled upon a massacre and they realised that things are going to change. All of a sudden Strigoi became a very real danger to all Moroi population but especially the royals. Rose is worried about Liss's safety and she didn't want to deal with sudden appearance of her mother at the academy. Although she is not there for her but with her Moroi but still Rose get to talk to her and it didn't end well. towards the end things did get a little better between mother and daughter. after facing Strigoi in real life, Rose started seeing things from a different perspective. She grew up a little.

In this second book the romance side of the story also got a little better. It was easier to connect with the characters and for that reason I'll give it 5-stars. I think I am going to read the rest of this series as well. It seems to be improving. :)

Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy #1) by Richelle Mea

Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy, #1)

St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger. . . .

Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.

I really enjoyed reading this book and will surely read rest of the series. This book had it all, romance, action and good mystery. Although I didn't much like the "romance" part. Overall its interesting and entertaining. I liked Rose's character the most and her sense of humour had me laughing at many points. Her unique bond with Moroi princess Liss also brought uniqueness to the book. I also didn't really like any male characters. I think its because the story is centred on Liss and Rose, their friendship and Rose's need to protect Liss at all times. Liss also tried in her own way to protect Rose. Its not easy to review this book, there were things I couldn't connect with but for most part I loved it and will give it 4-Stars.

There were three races in this world of vampires. Moroi were the good vampires, then there were Dhampires. They were half vampires and their duty was to  become Moroi guardians. each Moroi had his or her own guardian. Some Moroi were royals and some were not and their guardians were assigned according to their status in this society. Rose was Liss's unofficial guardian since she was still a novice -a guardian under training- but she hoped to be her full guardian one day. Dimitri was her current official guardian. He was the one who found them and brought them back to the Vampire's academy. He was also Rose's mentor and the guy she was crushing on.

The guardians protected Moroi from bad vampires i.e. Strigoi. Strigoi were deadly and they liked to kill.
In this first book though, we find out that, Strigoi were not the only danger to a Moroi. There can be a number of other people, people they might know, who were trying to harm them so guardians must always be at watch.

The story is well written. Characters are likeable and the plot is not bad either. But if you didn't like teenage romance and school stories this book is definitely not for you.

After reading this book the title makes perfect sense. It is a story about Mia who is betrayed by someone she loved. After which she become closed off and no matter how hard her friends try she can never connect with anyone like that. Until she meets Ethan. He makes her feel alive again. Both of them felt attracted to each other but things are not black and white for them.
Mia has her agenda for working in Ethan's company and she knows that she should stay away from him if she wanted to leave unscathed. Ethan is fighting his own demons. But they cannot deny what they feel for each other. Somethings are just inevitable even if they weren't ideal.
This was a really good book, easily a 4-star read. It is well written with likable side characters. In the beginning we are introduced to five friends sharing a house. Mia is one them. I like their interactions. It made this book all the more interesting.
“What the hell are you doing here? Are you stalking me now?” I snapped.
I attempted to remove his hand, but the effort behind it was marginal. Everything within me relished his hands all over me. My knees became weak with the heavy want coursing between my legs. My upper body constricted with my wayward needs. Ethan tightened his grip as he whirled me around so that my back was on his front. The music shifted to a slow, deliberate song that was fitting for my predicament. I cursed Usher underneath my breath for coming out with this song. Ethan had buried me into his body. It was impossible not to notice his hardness. He ran his hands down the front of my thighs until he hit bare skin.
“It's hard to stalk someone when they're in the club that you own,” he shot back.
“You own this place?” I stammered.
“I have a vested interest, so I come in on occasion. You can imagine my surprise when I discovered you were here,” he remarked.
My concentration was dwindling with every stroke he made upon my body. Ethan continued running his hands up and down my thighs, causing my heart to beat out of my chest. I bit my lip to keep from moaning from the pleasure when his fingers lingered towards the inside. My hands took on a mind of their own as they slid down his waist and thighs. His breaths trickled across my neck. It heightened the erotic dance south of me. I was in the danger zone with him. I fought to find my rational side to avoid undressing for him right then and there. My mind grasped at the few functioning brain cells to keep him talking. It was my last line of defense to keep him from kissing me.
“Why are you so upset?”
“I'm angry because you keep denying me when it's clear you want me. To top it off, you come to my club and dance with countless men right in front of me,” Ethan growled.
He ran his nose down my neck before licking away a bead of sweat. I gasped. The hand that he had moved to my waist slipped underneath my top. He caressed my belly before running his fingers further down, making every ounce of me come to a dull ache. Against my will, my body moved in ways to encourage him to travel further south to take full advantage of me. Ethan's hands settled along my waistline, lazily trailing his fingers along it. My mind screamed one last time that this was not an option for me. In a last-ditch attempt, I paused his hands so he wouldn't go any further. Ethan whipped me around to face him. The passion in his eyes was unmistakable.
“I'm trying to do the right thing,” I moaned.
His hands drifted underneath my shirt and up my sides on their way north this time. As he progressed along my rib cage to the lower line of my bra, he moved us off the dance floor. Ethan pushed me up against a pillar at the far end of it. He brought his body right into mine. He tossed in an occasional thrust of the hips as he pinned me, just to remind me how very well he knew my body. Ethan cupped my breast with tender strokes of his hand before pressing his lips on a spot underneath my ear lobe. It was enough to melt every part of me. I was throbbing all over for him.
“You want me. I want you. I don't care what's right or wrong,” Ethan hissed.
I tilted my neck as he trailed deep kisses down my collarbone and exposed shoulder. I wanted him so much that it was close to making me burst. I moaned even louder when his teeth grazed the crook of my shoulder. He sucked along my neck with eagerness, making no effort to hold back his want for me. I slanted my head to bring my lips vigorously down on his. My tongue drifted across the top of his mouth before his tongue met mine where they danced to the beat with the music around us. My hands moved down to his hips as he pumped against me. I slid them even further down to his ass. Ethan responded by grinding harder and grabbing one of my legs to raise it around his hip.
Our bodies melded together in an erotic dance as our mouths devoured each other. I lost myself in the music, in his lips, in his body, in his hands, and in the desires he brought out in me. His hands ran up and down my body while his lips and hips brought me to the point of no return.

Dream Cast

As well-known as the plant is, it’s only known for its processing of MSW. The perfect cover. No one suspects that a lab is situated three levels below ground. Or that a body was brought back to life with a computer program down there. It bothers me. It's rare that anything bothers me when it comes to a mission. Or life in general. But this one is pricking at me. Curiosity rides me. Gage leans into the car to speak to his team right as one of the back doors of the facility opens. Several Japanese men and women in lab coats exit first. They stop, forming a semi-circle around the entrance and talking amongst themselves. Another black haired man in a lab coat, one that is not Japanese, exits last. I know who he is based on his file. That is Dr. Gordon Allen, the creator of the Sapphire AI. Brilliant, thirty-four years old, and almost no one knows that he’s recently defied God. Whatever the hell it is. He turns back to the door. For a few seconds, all I see is his back. Then, he shifts, enough for me to catch a glimpse of the smaller figure exiting the facility. My feet start moving the moment I do. The fuck if I know why. I’m supposed to wait by the vehicles along with the rest of my team until they lead the “cargo” to us. Gage calls out my name in a low tone. He’s clearly as surprised as I fucking am. I don’t do impulsive moves. Don’t do total loss of body control. I’m doing both right now. My feet eat up the distance in a matter of seconds. The Japanese doctors tense as I storm closer, but none of them try to stop me. For some damn reason, the only thing that matters at the moment is getting close enough to truly see the resurrected Ms. Heaton. I am man on a fucking mission. “When did you do this?” Dr. Allen asks her in a hushed, strained tone. He’s pointing at her long, dark brown hair. The ends were dyed a deep, navy blue. “How did you get the dye?” “I asked for it.” Her voice hits me. God, does it hit me. And I’m sure my reaction is due to the fact that I am ninety-nine percent sure who is talking, and my mind is too fixated on the oddness, the novelty of the situation. I stop right behind Dr. Allen. There’s a pounding rush of adrenaline coursing through me as my pulse fills my ears. “This… this…” Dr. Allen pauses in his stuttering, the movement of his head telling me he’s looking up and down at her. “You should have worn the other outfit.” “I… liked this one better,” she says in a small voice that mounts me, takes over, and reawakens a series of emotions that spring to life like rusty gears. I am not an unfeeling man. Not completely. Fuck no. But the emotions going through me make me feel like I’ve been in an emotional coma the majority of my life. She’s wearing a black button-down sweater, a navy blue school-girl skirt, black-and-white striped knee-highs, and light-brown commando boots that start right below her knee. She’s hugging a messenger bag to her chest, one with a pink-teddy bear on the front and the phrases Reality is a Prison and Sucker Punch beneath it. “This is all too different.” She doesn’t respond to Dr. Allen’s worried statement—she’s staring into my eyes. Looking right at me. That rush—that god damn rush hits me again, and I’m almost dizzy. Years of training are the only thing keeping me somewhat steady. Those big, duo-colored, gold-tinted eyes are wide, curious, and they’ve stolen every bit of processing power within my mind. Her pale skin turns pink and her lips fall open with a shuddering inhale. I can’t blink. I don’t move. Am I even fucking breathing?
